The Stained Glass Windows of Trinity
In the Trinity Archives Room, collected into a volume titled, "Trinity Sanctuary Windows," are photographs of the stained glass windows of Trinity and articles and transcripts of presentations given in services on special occasions. These background materials--the meaning of the pictorial symbols and the donors and honorees--were prepared by several authors.
The first of these is a bulletin for the 10:55 Morning Worship Memorial Service on May 28, 1950, in which the windows were dedicated. The bulletin carries a description of each of the windows (excepting the chancel window), together with the honoree and the donors.
Next is a collection of handwritten notes, one of which is dated September 19, 1960. Although unsigned and unattributed, the phraseology is identical to sections of a printed article which discusses Christian Symbolism in Trinity Church, the author of which is R. O. Shotts, Chairman, Board of Stewards, Trinity Methodist Church.
The third group of materials appears to be presentations made on at least two occasions by Dr. M. L. Roberts, May 25, 1994, and May 28, 2000 (the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the windows), in which he describes the windows and their symbols and recognizes the donors and descendents of the donors. The text describing the windows in this presentation on the website is taken directly from Dr. Roberts' address.
Dr. Roberts expressed the feelings of the congregation when he said at the end of his presentation at the 50th anniversary service, "We are proud of the beauty and quality of these windows and the symbols they contain. We should enjoy them, study them, and draw inspiration from them. These symbols are not mere decoration; they represent praise, honor and glory to God."
See for yourself the beauty of these works of art. Browse around this sub-web and enjoy the majesty of these gifts that mean so much in our worship.
