Mr. Ted Miller

"For more than a quarter of a century, Mr. T. T. Miller served Trinity Church and the Tuscaloosa community with his professional skill, Christian dedication and his uncommon touch of friendship.

As a certified lay worker in music, he served Trinity as Minister of Music.  Out of his rich skill, he performed at the organ, directed choirs, instructed groups and individuals in great numbers.

In addition, he served Trinity as an assistant to the pastor and in this capacity performed administrative duties, directed enlistment programs, visited in hospitals, nursing homes and family residences.

He was a helpful counselor and friend to some eight Trinity pastors during this tenure.  What a tribute!

As a citizen, acting out of Christian motivation, his marks on the community were as familiar to this community as Denny Chimes.  What a fellow!"

Burl Oliver, for the August 10, 1975 Church Bulletin

This was the tribute to Ted Miller on the occasion of the announcement of his retirement, August 15, 1975.  But, he didn't fade from the Tuscaloosa Trinity scene.  He remained as organist for many more years, serving the music needs and endearing himself to more generations of the Trinity family.

Today, those of us who never met this gentleman hear from not-so-old Trinity members who speak of him almost reverently.  The tales of his work with the youth of the M.Y.F., his portable organ which was packed up in his vehicle and used on his visitation rounds or to serve at smaller Tuscaloosa area churches, and his kind and gentle nature are many and heartfelt.

He was truly a living example of a dedicated worker in Christ's vineyard.

The Church Archives has Mr. Miller's portable organ on display, and various mementoes of his tenure have been collected into a binder, memorializing him.  You may view these items and other historical artifacts of the Brandon-Trinity congregation in the Archives Room on Sunday during the Sunday School hour.

Before the memories of Mr. Miller fade from the minds of those who knew and loved him, we would like to collect anecdotes about him during his Trinity years of service.  Please write or type up your stories about this beloved organist and send them to the Church Office or to Louis Buettner by email.
