Benjamin E. Bearden

 

TUSCALOOSA Benjamin E. Bearden, age 76, of Tuscaloosa, died August 30, 2008, at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Griffith, Rev. Melody Traylor, and Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

A lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa, he was retired from Elk Corporation. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Londa Bennett Bearden of Tuscaloosa; one son, Bennett L. Bearden and his wife, Amy; two daughters, Melissa P. Bearden of Tuscaloosa and Kimberly A. Bearden of Lake Wales, Florida; one brother, William Bearden of Tuscaloosa; three sisters, Lula Franklin of Moundville, Mabel Crosby of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Dolly Adams of Salem, Virginia; three granddaughters, Brittany L. Bearden of Tuscaloosa, Morgan M. Bearden of Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Lauren A.M. Stewart of Tuscaloosa; and one great granddaughter, Summer G. Fellows of Tuscaloosa.

Pallbearers will be Bennett L. Bearden, Ralph Cabiness, Criss Daniel, Jamey Farley, Jeff Moore, and Chad Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers will be James O. Styres, Jr., friends and neighbors of Windsong South, members of the Concord Sunday School Class at Trinity United Methodist Church, Mike Battles and employees of Tucker Motor Company, Hillcrest Elementary School staff of Lake Wales, Florida, employees of the Geological Survey of Alabama and State Oil and Gas Board of Alabama, the United States Marine Corps Officer Selection Office staff in Tuscaloosa, Mary Hollingsworth (special caregiver), DCH Home Health Care staff and doctors, nurses and staff of the DCH Regional Medical Center 3rd floor MICU.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church at 729 Paul W. Bryant Drive East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 or to a favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
