Heifer International is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.”  The leaders of Heifer International envision “a world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.”  How do they make this seemingly impossible goal a reality?

Heifer sends pairs of animals to impoverished families around the world.  The families commit to share the offspring of these animals with their other village members so that the entire village benefits from the products produced by these animals.  For 60 years Heifer has been committed to giving families a food source (long term relief) rather than short term relief and have changed lives for millions of families in more than 128 countries around the world.

Heifer International is an organization that the children of Trinity have supported this past year and they invite you to join them in their efforts.  They have been working on special art projects for you to purchase.  Our goal is to be an “Ark Church,” a church that contributes $5,000 to purchase animals for an entire community.  Additionally, we will plan a trip to Heifer International Headquarters in Georgia during this calendar year.

You are invited to attend the Trinity Children Art Auction on May 6.

A Spaghetti Dinner will be available for a reasonable cost.  All proceeds will go to Heifer International.  Please mark your calendars today.  Watch for more information later.

DON’T MISS A CHANCE TO SHARE GOD’S LOVE!!!

S.I.F.A.T.

S.I.F.A.T (pronounced see-fat) stands for Servants In Faith and Technology and refers to a missionary training organization in Wedowee, Alabama.  The leaders of S.I.F.A.T. know that one of the most practical ways to share God’s love is in the merging of faith and technology.  Volunteers are taught to establish farms while maintaining the integrity of rain forests, to establish microenterprise within urban slums, to build and maintain schools in third world countries,  and to promote safe motherhood while combating infant mortality.  In short, they are taught to bring God’s peace and love, in practical ways, to others.

In addition to training missionaries for work throughout the world, S.I.F.A.T. offers opportunities for churches to work in their Global Village for several days to learn about some of the work that missionaries carry out in God’s world.   We all need to be more sensitive to the needs of the world, and learning how to express God’s love in practical ways helps to meet those needs.

Trinity United Methodist will plan a trip to S.I.F.A.T. this summer for anyone who is interested in discovering the joy that comes from being a servant of Christ.  Families, children, and youth are welcome.  We will have the opportunity to live the life of a missionary for a few days – we will make bricks from dirt and water, learn how to farm with little or no water, learn how to create energy from animal products, and much more!!  This will truly be a life changing experience!

Soles4Souls

Mission and Mercy Highlight

“Changing the world one pair at a time”  is the logo/mission statement of a non-profit organization, Soles4Souls that works to keep shoes on the feet of the people of the world.  Born as a response to the 2004 Tsunami disaster and hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Soles4Souls collects shoes from retailers, civic organizations, and churches (like Trinity UMC!) and delivers them to the hurting worldwide.  Practical, gently used, or new shoes for both children and adults are collected.

A Note From Our Senior Pastor:

Recently I was asked to share my vision for the United Methodist Church. Of course my mind went directly to Trinity’s mission statement: To be a place where searching people can belong, believe and become in Christ Jesus. In order to be such a church we must carry out a twofold task: Evangelism and Transformation. Through evangelism the people of Trinity must be about the task of bringing people into a meaningful relationship with the Living Christ. Through Transformation the people of Trinity are transformed more into the image of Jesus as we perform the works of Christ in Christian service. I hope that all of us are constantly asking how we as individuals and we as a church are doing when it comes to this twofold task.

On April 1st, we will have a wonderful opportunity to begin dreaming how we as a congregation can carry out the works of Christ through mission opportunities to be shared at this meeting. I believe this will be one of the most transformative opportunities our congregation could be a part of. So I am asking that we all make this meeting a priority and plan to be a part of the Mission and Mercy Cluster meeting, April 1st at 4:00 pm. Hope to see you all.

                                                                                                                Peace,

                                                                Alan
