Givers help group make a difference

Rev. Michelle Hunter Hindman
Trinity United Methodist Church

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the clergy, staff and laity of Trinity United Methodist Church, I would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent Soles4Souls shoe drive. Through the month of May we were able to collect 3,324 pairs of new and gently worn shoes to send to the needy worldwide. Soles4Souls is a nonprofit organization that collects shoes around the world and distributes them to the needy. Formed as a response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Soles4Souls meets a need that is often overlooked and underestimated. With over one million shoes distributed to date, Soles4Souls (with your participation) really does make a difference.

The phenomenal success of this project would not have been possible without the support of the Tuscaloosa community and The Tuscaloosa News, so thank you from Trinity United Methodist Church and all the men, women and children who will receive these shoes.

Ed. Note: We became aware of Michelle's letter to the editor when Lynda Jones called from Trinity after receiving a call from a member of the Tuscaloosa community who is not a member of Trinity.  Having noticed this Letter in the July 19 edition of the Tuscaloosa News, this person called the church office to offer the 75 pairs of shoes she and her family had collected for this worthy cause.  Since our Soles4Souls drive ended at the end of May, we are looking into other agencies who might receive this gift.  Sounds like there might be a need to have another shoe drive in the future.
