Congregational Care at Trinity

Congregational Care Chair:  Dot Scarbrough

Our Lord made it abundantly clear that, as followers of Him, we have responsibilities to care for others, and this care begins at home. The following care teams have been designated to cover the needs of every member in our congregation by the love and concern of members of the Trinity family.  They support the ministerial staff by performing these acts of kindness and expressions of concern and support.  Please prayerfully consider volunteering to serve your fellow members in the Trinity congregation by calling the team leader in one or more of these areas of activity and let them know that you want to help.

Membership Care

Headed by Joyce Daniel, this team receives notice of any need of any Trinity member from the person in need or from a concerned friend or relative. Joyce or other team members visit the member to learn of the need and, in consultation with the ministerial staff determine the resources available to meet the need. One way or another, the problem gets resolved. You are encouraged to use this resource for your needs or to report someone in our church family with needs.

Grief Support

Henry DeVasher and his team learn of deaths of members of the congregation or their immediate family through the church office, a minister or directly from the family. The condolences of the congregation are conveyed to the family along with a food platter to ease the burden of having to take care of some of the daily necessities during their time of grief.

Hospital Care

Kathryn Cooper heads the team that makes visits to our church members who are in the hospital, offering support, encouragement, prayers and minor errands to make their hospital stay cheerier. Please remember to notify the church office, a minister or Kathryn when you go to the hospital.

Shut-In Services

Mary West has organized a terrific vital program for the members of our church who can’t worship with us due to illness or infirmity.

Altar Flower Distribution

Immediately after the worship service on Sunday, Mary and her team collect the altar flowers and keep them fresh until the team goes to work. They divide them into bud vases or smaller arrangements which are delivered to the shut-in members on Monday. Included in the package they deliver is a newsletter produced by Mary which keeps the inactive member informed of all the goings-on at Trinity.

Greeting Card Program

The ailing among us are announced by Rev. Alan Head at our fellowship gatherings and in church, and he encourages the general membership to send cards of encouragement to the member. You don’t need to belong on a committee list to perform this function, but please be sensitive to these requests and act on them when announced.

Home Communion

As Mary West and her team learn of the desire of a shut-in member to take Holy Communion, this need is passed along to the ministerial staff. The pastor or one of the ordained ministers may go to the home to give communion, or the pastor may consecrate the elements which are administered by a lay person on the Worship Committee.

Newcomers Care

Visitors to the Sunday morning worship service who give a home address receive a visit from Dot Scarbrough or one of her team members who will deliver not only the warm welcome of Trinity, but also a loaf of Joyce Daniels’ delicious home-baked bread.

New members also receive an orientation visit in which the programs and resources available to them at Trinity are outlined. During this visit, the new member is offered the opportunity to participate in our Mustard Seed Project.

Prayer Chain

To those of us who have experienced the power of intercessory prayer, the Prayer Chain, administered by Billie Gleisbrg, is an important part of the Trinity caring experience. A phone call to the Church office, the pastor or Mrs. Gleisberg will activate dozens of prayer warriors in behalf of your need. Utilize these services when you need. Get your name on the Prayer Chain to help in time of the need of others.
